Mahakumbh Mela 2025
The Maha Kumbh Mela, recognized as one of the largest religious assemblies globally, is set to occur in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025. This important occasion draws millions of pilgrims and visitors from around the world, who converge at the meeting point of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the legendary Saraswati rivers to engage in holy ceremonies and pursue spiritual cleansing.
The Maha Kumbh Mela serves as both a spiritual gathering and a grand cultural display. It features traditional parades of Akharas (religious groups), performances by revered saints and sadhus, along with numerous cultural activities that reflect the richness of Indian heritage. Its recognition by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage emphasizes its worldwide relevance.
UP Police Security
The police in Prayagraj have implemented extensive security measures throughout the city to safeguard the anticipated attendance of over 450 million individuals at the Mahakumb, an event that occurs once every 12 years.
Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Police for Uttar Pradesh, announced that extensive security arrangements have been established for the upcoming event scheduled from January 13 to February 26, as reported by the news agency ANI.
As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, the police have organized a circular security system comprising 102 checkpoints situated along seven key routes. This security protocol involves conducting checks and searches of vehicles and individuals.
Enhanced security measures have been implemented, involving the deployment of 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, 645 constables, and 113 Home Guards/PRD (Prantiya Rakshak Dal) personnel who are actively overseeing the event.
